Howden meeting the needs of professionals

*

*18 June 2007 – Howden Professionals, a provider of civil liability insurance, is living up to its promise of delivering professional service and comprehensive cover at a fair price. In the six months since its launch, the business has been appointed as a preferred supplier by professional associations and training organisations including:

  • the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy
  • the Hypnotherapy Society
  • the Counselling Society
  • Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland
  • the International Stress Management Association UK
  • the Institute of IT Trainers
Howden Professionals has also been appointed as one of the preferred suppliers to the British Psychological Society.

Roger Mead, Vice Chair of the International Stress Management Association, comments: ““In my role as Vice Chair of the International Stress Management Association I reviewed various companies that could provide insurance to our members. I found Howden to be the most responsive and knowledgeable of those companies and I was able to propose them to the Association to be appointed as our recommended insurer. In particular they seemed to have an understanding of the challenges that members face and were happy to tailor their cover to meet our specific needs. I have since moved my own cover to Howden and was pleased with the friendly service, and the reduction in premium was an added bonus.”

Mike O’Sullivan, a prominent figure in the hypnotherapy and trauma counselling field, also believes that Howden Professionals is living up to its customer promise. He says: “While cost is a consideration, I’ve never been happy with buying insurance cover based on premiums alone and believe the level of cover is a far greater issue. I approached Howden Professionals regarding cover for members of the new Register for Trauma Therapists and was thoroughly impressed both with the speed and quality of response, as well as their ability to tailor the cover provided for the needs of our members.”

Howden Professionals has also appointed Philippa Weitz as Risk Management Consultant. Philippa has worked for a number of years as a psychological counsellor in both private and general practice. Philippa will continue her role as commissioning editor for Karnac Books with special responsibility for counselling and primary care. Commenting on her decision to join Howden Professionals, Philippa said: “The team at Howden has been closely involved with the psychotherapy, psychology and counselling professional insurance needs since at least the early 1990's, and as a psychological counsellor myself, I can quite safely say there is no one who understands our insurance needs better.”

Jo Mountain, General Manager of Howden Professionals concludes: “We have experienced a fantastic response since we launched at the end of last year. Therapists, psychologists and counsellors have had to endure reduced quality cover for ever rising premiums over recent years. We’re delighted that our message is beginning to get through that there is now an alternative civil liability insurance provider. We offer a broad policy wording and experienced personal service, and yet our premiums are on average 20% less than our major competitors.”
